Single-stair is the default layout for buildings in most of the world outside of North America. Units in single-stair buildings are arranged around a central stairwell (and usually an elevator) serving all units, resulting in a slim building footprint that can fit onto small infill lots. European cities owe much of their famous charm, vitality, and walkability to their fundamental building block: single-stair buildings.

What is a Single-Stair Building?
College students are not only our future builders, architects, and housing developers, they are also the ones who are most acutely feeling the pinch from the housing crisis. Young people today are increasingly being left out of the housing market. In fact, the average age for new homebuyers is over 50!
If we want college students to help us solve our housing crisis, we must invest in them, and build up their expertise.
We are seeking Architects and Developers to assist with mentoring and judging the students. If you are interested in lending your expertise, please fill out the following:

Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at a university, college, or institution of higher-learning in Washington or Oregon state. We encourage students who have had at least 2 years of studio.
Teams who submit are eligible for following prizes:
October 20th - Kickoff at UOregon Campus
January 15th - Registration Deadline
April 1st - Final Submissions Due
